Title: Unscrambling the Egg: Current Challenges in Inverse Problems

Abstract: Inverse problems involve working backward from observed data to uncover the underlying physical properties or mechanisms that produced them. While a "forward problem" predicts the outcome of a known system, an inverse problem asks what system could have generated a specific result. This challenge is central to modern medical imaging, geophysics, and biology, yet inverse problems manifest across mathematical sciences, from logic to statistics. In this talk, I will introduce several classical inverse problems and illustrate how they appear in a diverse range of fields. Finally, I will discuss recent developments in the area, with a particular focus on the growing role of applied inverse problems in biology.
