Postgraduate Research Conference

Each year the Graduate College organises an interdisciplinary research conference for Lancaster University students. We also stream the event online, allowing our distance learners to participate in the conference, and even present papers.

The event also includes Academic Posters, 15 minute presentations, and a Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition*, in which students have the opportunity to win prizes for the quality of their poster or presentation. There are also guest speakers, panel discussions and opportunities to network with fellow researchers from across the academic disciplines.‌

This year, we are inviting students to bring their families to hear them present - this could be the first time your spouse/partner/parents/children etc. have had an opportunity to find out what you spend your time working on!

*Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is an academic competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia.

The Postgraduate Research Conference 2026 will include practice/training sessions, and a full day conference on Saturday 4th July

PGRC 2026 will include:

  • 3 Minute Thesis
  • Academic Poster Presentations
  • 10 Minute Presentations (plus 5 minutes for Q&A)

A Multi-disciplinary cross-Faculty conference

The Postgraduate Research Conference is an multi-disciplinary cross-faculty conference, where Postgraduate Researchers from across all Faculties at the University present their research to an audience of non-expert peers.

We believe that sharing ideas and research across specialisms, departments, and faculties is important for all researchers. It can lead to collaborative projects, provide positive and constructive feedback from the research community, and broaden people's outlook within their own specialisms.

Conference theme

The theme of this year’s conference is AI.

Love it or hate it, it is making an impact on all areas of lives - and Academia is no exception.

Details of invited speakers and workshops around this theme will be announced soon.

Who can attend the conference?

The conference is open to all Postgraduate Research Students at Lancaster University. We also welcome Taught Master's Students and Undergraduates who may like to attend. There will be the opportunity for distance learning students to view the presentations, as these will be streamed live on the day.
