Why did you choose to study at LUMS?
After studying for one term at a different University, I knew that when I returned to studies, it had to be at somewhere that aligned with my values and long-term career ambitions. Everything that Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) offered seemed right for me, from the excellent graduate job opportunities to the number of LUMS student societies. I knew that my decision was going to be the right one.
What was the best thing about your course?
I had no compulsory modules for my third year, meaning I was able to specialise in subjects that not only did I enjoy, but subjects that I felt I could excel in. The range of options also led me to developing a great interest in health and labour economics.
What/who inspired you most at LUMS and why?
The Economics and Finance Society. I feel that there is so much to be learned from other students who are only a few years older than you, and who have very recently taken on the course of study that you currently are. The number of events, both social and career-focused, were so important to my journey, to the extent that I credit the society greatly for my success.
Describe your time at LUMS in three words.
Transformative. Inspiring. Successful.
What are the best things about living in the Lancaster area?
There are several things. Being from the West Midlands, I had not had the chance to explore the North West before University, and having the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, coastlines, big cities, and natural landscapes very close to me is a bonus that I never anticipated. The people of Lancaster are also incredibly warm and friendly, and they won't be shy to give you their opinion!
What impact did scholarships or funding have on your degree experience?
The Grow Your Future Team provided me with several scholarships throughout my time at the University, from clothing costs to transport to interviews. It massively helped to reduce my financial stress and concentrate on where my future career was going.
Is there anything else about your LUMS experience that you'd like to share with us?
I'm delighted to say that I graduated with a 2:1 and was selected for a graduate scheme at St. James's Place (the biggest wealth management company in the UK). I was selected as 1 of 4 graduates out of over 16,000 applicants. My experience at LUMS made all the difference, and I'm very grateful to everyone who helped me along the way.
